I used a variety of drawing pencils to draw this young boy. I used soft pencils for the eyes to make them really stand out and harder pencils to achieve the soft skin tones.

The original photo of this young boy was taken by photographer Tracy Wright Carvo. Tracy Wright Carvo is a professional photographer who has her Masters degree in Education. Visit her web site.

Blending your Graphite

As you can see with this drawing of a boy, I spent a large amount of time blending various hard nesses of graphite together. Blending hard and soft pencil markings together takes a lot of time, but is a very important part of the drawing process. Using a tortillion may help you achieve the tones that you are after. You can make one yourself by visiting our drawing supplies web page.
