I used a variety of drawing pencils to draw this young child. For the background I used charcoal because charcoal is a lot softer than my softest pencils. The original photo of this child was taken by photographer Tracy Wright Carvo.

Drawing Tip:

Work from left to right (if you are right handed). It will keep your drawing looking a lot cleaner. It will save yourself time and, especially if you use charcoal, avoid frustration. If you smudge important details with charcoal, it can ruin your drawing.
